Making summer memories

This morning we went to an entertaining and informative lecture by the resort historian. The Grand Hotel was built in 1897 by several railroad companies essentially as a destination for the wealthy second generation of the industrial revolution. The resort was open only during July and August and hotel staff were tasked with making summer memories for the guests so that they would come back year after year. I like to think that we are making summer memories with every trip we take!

It was a glorious morning. We went in different directions to get exercise and Anne took a nice long walk to the village and back to the hotel by the lake.

Greg and Stephen went to the gym and Elizabeth and I walked up from the hotel past some beautiful “cottages.”

I still need to work on my selfie technique!

The water is crystal clear!

The current hotel interior was designed by Dorothy Draper and Carlton Varney, as we suspected. Their look is so distinctive, there really was no question!

Doesn’t eating ice cream on the front porch sound wonderful ?

Dinner at The Jockey Club was great, then we called it a day - of making summer memories.
