Taking a bite out of the Big Apple - September 6, 2026

Hi blog! It’s been a while!

Liz has been wanting to go to the US Open Tennis for a long time, and last year it was her Christmas present. Here we are!

The flight up this morning from RIC was flawless. The airport was empty! But it is the first time Greg has flown since his knees were replaced last year and, not even thinking about all the titanium involved, he made the metal detector beep like mad. So a new normal, Greg requires a physical pat-down at TSA, at least at RIC.

After checking in to the Westin Grand Central Station in midtown Manhattan, we decided to explore the nearby area. Greg spotted Taylor Fritz, an American tennis player who has already lost in singles and mixed doubles, in the lobby and then we saw many US Open courtesy cars so maybe we are in a good spot to see some tennis stars!

Of course we had to have a bite to eat before we could explore and found Pershing Square, a bistro serving breakfast.

From there we walked across the street to see the beautiful but bustling Grand Central Station.

In the afternoon we taxied down to Pier 83 and took a cruise on the Circleline. It was a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the sights of the city. We started in the Hudson River and cruised over to the East River, then stopped by the Statue of Liberty before returning to the dock.

After a few minutes to refresh, we walked across the street to Osteria Laguna for a wonderful Italian dinner. Liz took photos of our meals:

Such a lovely day we’ve had!
