The 101 South

We try not to make it all about the food, but starting a long time ago, even back in Disneyworld, it seems to be all about the food and Voodoo donuts are delicious!

Getting out of Portland this morning was interesting, with a major route closed and no detour information! But we figured it out and the trip to the Pacific Coast Highway was beautiful with orchards, mountains, wineries, and casinos.

Our first stop on 101 was in Lincoln City, and each stop thereafter seemed to be prettier than the last.

I have forgotten to bring my camera battery charger with me, how could that have happened? From now on, most of the photos are Stephen's, who is kindly sharing them for the blog.

A whale watching boat heading out of Depoe Bay

The Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay was closed up tight for renovation and we were very disappointed. Can you tell?

We stopped for a picnic lunch at the Yaquinta Lighthouse, and not only had a great lunch, but learned a lot about sea birds, and saw some harbor seals and babies. It was hard to leave, but we had a long drive ahead of us. We're in Bandon tonight, and will head out first thing for Crater Lake.

  1. Wish we had known about Voodoo Donuts last summer...we were so close in both Portland and Eugene! Just another reason to go back, wouldn't you agree? I got a lot of good-natured ribbing on my blog due to all the references to food, but it's so much fun to find quirky places or try new things. Have you come across anywhere that asks if you want "fry sauce" for your French fries?!
